You can use this service to identify households in rural or urban areas.
You can use this information to help you to:
The data source we use for the Metro Rural Identification is the 2006 ABS Census.
We define each Census Collection District (CCD) as either a metro or rural area based on urban area definition by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. About 70% of Australian households are classified as metro and 29% rural, with the remainder classified as 'special area households'. Each CCD covers 200-250 households.
You will require a valid residential address, postcode and State, with CCD applied. If your database doesn't include CCD's for residential addresses, we can supply software to remedy this before you use the service.
You will receive information added to each matching customer record to show the Metro/rural identification information.

The price of appending the Metro Rural Flag to your database will depend on the volume of records you would like update or whether you would like to license the variable for internal use and analysis. The Metro Rural Flag can also be purchased as a filter when selecting a target market for specific marketing campaigns.
Like all data products, particularly those that may involve use or disclosure of personal information, you must comply with the Privacy Act 1988 and other applicable data protection and privacy legislation. You should also take steps to ensure that your systems and processes when using a product of this kind addresses you obligations under discrimination and related legislation.
