You can use this service to obtain information on the unemployment rate for each Census Collection District (CCD), a geographic boundary containing approximately 250 households. The indicator is derived directly from the census data.

Manage your risk levels

The Employment Indicator describes the neighbourhood, not individuals or households. It can give some insights into issues around risk management and relative consumer confidence.

It ranks each district on a scale of 1 (high unemployment rate) to 10 (low unemployment rate).

How it works

You will require valid residential addresses to append the Employment Indicator to your database. For all matching records, we will provide you with the employment indicator for the CCD that the residence is contained in.

If your database doesn't include census district information, we can supply software to enable you to apply the indicator in house.  Please note that this service does not provide employment information for individual households.

Cost

The price of appending the Employment Indicator to your database will depend on the volume of records you would like update or whether you would like to license the indicator for internal use and analysis. Disposable Income can also be purchased as a filter when selecting a target market for specific marketing campaigns.

What else do I need to know?

A Census Collector District (CCD) is the base geographic boundary used by the Australian Bureau of Statistics to report on the Census. Each CCD contains about 200 - 250 households.

The unemployment rate is prepared after each Census. The figures are calculated by taking the number of unemployed individuals in a CCD divided by the total number of people in the workforce in a CCD at the time of the Census.

As a user of this or other data products, particularly those that may involve use or disclosure of personal information, you would need to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 and other applicable data protection and privacy legislation.
